China's new Earth observation satellite Gaofen-12 04, was successfully launched on August 21. It will be used for a wide range of activities such as land surveys, urban planning, crop yield estimation and disaster relief.
The Longest Expressway Shield Tunnel Drilled Through in Beijing
A tunnel drilled for expressway transport in Beijing was completed on August 21, which is the longest expressway tunnel in China in using the shield-tunneling method. With a total length of 7.4 km, the tunnel project is designed to have a two-way six-lane expressway on the middle level, smoke vent on the upper level and evacuation and rescue routes on the lower level.
The World's First 35 kV Km-class Superconducting Cable Breaks Record
On August 18, the world's first 35 kV km-class superconducting cable successfully operated for 10 hours and 22 minutes at a high load in Shanghai, and achieved full load operation with the highest current of 2160.12 amps for the first time, further breaking the record of the largest actual operating capacity of China's commercial superconducting transmission project.
China's Computing Power Grows
China's computing power ranks second in the world, totaling 197 EFLOPS. The industry has been growing at an average rate of nearly 30 percent for five years, according to the 2023 China Computing Power Conference in Yinchuan, on August 19.
