It's common practice now to pick up a delivered package or takeout food from smart cabinets, but can you imagine your deliveries being made by an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)?

    Low altitude UAV delivery shuttles could greatly shorten delivery time and reduce labor costs.

    Recently, the Ministry of Transport and related authorities issued the Guideline for the Construction of Smart Logistics Standard System for Transportation, which includes a number of regulations related to UAV delivery.

    UAVs are able to fly over traffic jams and quickly arrive at their destination, so they have obvious comparative advantages, especially, in less developed regions.

    UVAs can not only deliver food and packages, but also deliver scenic area supplies and medical supplies. In addition to the traditional express deliveries, UAVs are also used in such business scenarios as medical cold chain, emergency support, security inspections, and  intra-city distribution, further improving delivery efficiency.

    The technology for UAV platforms is already mature. However, other supporting technologies, including loading and unloading, ground transfers, airspace control, takeoff and landing management, station construction and safety assurance need to be further improved.

    In order to realize the normal delivery of UAVs, challenges in national laws, city supporting facilities, security and technology should be improved.
