Leading the Way in Offshore Wind Power Capacity
By Staff Reporters

After connected 16.9 GW of offshore wind capacity to the grid in 2021, with a 4.5 -fold year-on-year increase, China now leads the world in terms of both installed and connected capacity, according to the latest data from the country's Ministry of Natural Resources.

According to the International Energy Agency, the installed capacity of offshore wind power in China will be equal to that of the entire European Union by 2040, with the emission reduction capacity further improved.

As one of its green energy, China's offshore wind power industry is growing rapidly. Chinese authorities released a plan in 2020 to develop a modern energy system during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), which stresses promoting wind power in places with rich wind resources and good development conditions.

The development of wind power also relied on improvement of R&D and manufacturing capabilities of high -end marine equipment.

China's first deep-sea floating wind power infrastructure "Fuyao" was towed to Maoming, south China's Guangdong province on May 27. As part of a project designed to advance the technology and demonstrate the capabilities of floating wind power generation, "Fuyao" wind turbine is equipped with 6.2 megawatt typhoon-resistant wind power generating units.

According to official data, the giant construction was uniquely designed for deep-seas and challenging conditions, including the ability to operate in rough weather conditions such as typhoons.

Currently, an entire industry chain covering wind turbines, accessory equipment, offshore construction and operation has been established in the country, making up for lack of energy distribution in economic belt of southeast coast.
