| China unveiled its first national botanical garden in Beijing on April 18. With a planned area of 600 hectares, the garden is an expansion of the Institute of Botany under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Beijing Botanical Garden. It has more than 30,000 plant species and five million representative plant specimens from five continents. To strengthen biodiversity protection, China is accelerating the construction of a system of national botanical gardens in places like Beijing and Guangzhou.
