Three New GIAHS Sites Get FAO Recognition
Three new sites in China have been recognized as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN. They are an ancient pear orchard system in Gansu province in northwest China, a freshwater pearl mussel composite fishery system in Zhejiang province in east China, and a white tea culture system in eastern Fujian province. LLMs More Persuasive than Humans
A study published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour on May 19 says that in online debates, large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 can be 64 percent more persuasive than humans. The findings highlight the potential of AI tools to influence human opinions, while also underscoring the need for further research in mitigating the risks associated with their persuasive power.
Brain-inspired Chip Works Without Cloud, Internet
Researchers at the Technical University of Munich in Germany have developed an AI chip called AI Pro that operates without a cloud server or Internet connections, which are typically required by existing chips. Its computing architecture is inspired by the structure and functioning of the human brain, enabling it to perform calculations locally, ensuring full cybersecurity and lower energy consumption.
