China's Marine Economy Hits Record 10.5 Trillion RMB

    China's marine economy achieved a milestone in 2024, with its gross ocean product exceeding 10.5 trillion RMB for the first time, according to data released by the Ministry of Natural Resources on February 24. 

    Chinese Humanoid Robot Does Front Flip

    A humanoid robot, developed by Chinese company EngineAI, showcased a front flip in Shenzhen, Guangdong province in south China, on February 23. It was the first such stunt by a humanoid robot in the world. EngineAI precisely calculated the dynamic balance and instantaneous acceleration, ensuring the robot maintained stability during the somersault and landed smoothly.

    4th-Gen. Marine Engineering Installation Ships Ready

    China's fourth-generation marine engineering installation ships "Zhigao" and "Zhiyuan," the product of independent research and development, were completed on February 23. They can install a set of offshore wind turbines in three days, 30 percent faster than third-generation equipment, and withstand winds of up to force 16 and waves as high as 12 meters.

    SpaceX Launches 22 Starlink Satellites

    SpaceX launched 22 Starlink satellites into orbit on February 22 local time. According to SpaceX, the satellites were launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The objective is both space exploration and connectivity, providing high-speed Internet globally.

    Indonesian Glaciers May Vanish by 2026

    Indonesia's only glaciers could disappear by 2026 due to global warming, affecting the island's flora and fauna including indigenous species. Donaldi Sukma Permana from Indonesia's Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency said one of the glaciers, in Central Papua Province, was only about four meters thick, down from six meters in December 2023.
