Chinese Scientists Unravel Genetic Mystery of Rice

    A research team from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences have deciphered the genetic basis behind the formation of clustered-spikelet rice, which can produce multiple grains from a single position and was a subject of interest in agricultural science for nearly a century. The study was published in the online version of the academic journal Science on March 8.

    First Smart Zone to Charge EVs Ready

    The construction of China's first smart electric vehicle (EV)-charging and battery-swapping demonstration zone was completed in the eastern province of Jiangsu on March 5. The zone covers nearly 500 km^2, sprawling through the cities of Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou, and will greatly shorten the waiting time needed for EV charging.

    UAV Helps Bring Rain in Guizhou

    A large civil unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the Wing Loong-2H, was deployed in Liupanshui, Guizhou province in southwest China, to induce rain on March 9. The operation lasted nearly five hours, marking the first time Guizhou officially carried out large-scale UAV artificial rain enhancement operations.
