The 2023 China Digital Economy Innovation Development Conference kicked off in Shantou, an eastern city in Guangdong province, on August 16.
The three-day conference provided a comprehensive platform for experts from home and abroad to dialogue on China's digital economy development and international cooperation.
Discussions revolved around key topics including new digital economy infrastructure, green computing networks and comprehensive integration of data resources.
The China Digital Economy Development Index Report (2023) was released at the conference, showing that Guangdong's digital economy development index ranks among the first tier in the country.
"Guangdong leads the country in the development of digital economy, and together with the two special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao, it can bring favorable advantages in finance, trade, technology and international exchanges to the Greater Bay Area," said Xu Ningsheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) during the conference.
Shing-Tung Yau, a Chinese-American mathematician and CAS academician, stated that the digital economy has become a key area of competition for countries around the world. He thought that mathematics is the foundation of the digital economy. The country needs to develop mathematical thinking and apply mathematical technology to make the digital economy more sophisticated and powerful.
Joseph Sifakis, a Turing Prize winner and CAS academician, said that in the future, the ability to build trusted intelligent systems with AI components will ultimately determine whether AI can become a driver of innovation in the digital economy.
The real economy has huge potential for the application of digital technologies, said Li Peigen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in his keynote speech, adding that AI is widely applied by enterprises, throughout the design, production, assembly, sales, supply chain and other links.
To promote the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy, China Mobile will build a new information infrastructure focusing on 5G and computing network, and create the "5G+gigabit" network and the flexible and customized 5G private network to empower enterprises' digital transformation, said Ge Songhai, general manager of China Mobile Guangdong Company.
The conference is co-organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Guangdong Provincial Government.
