As two eye-catching transport technologies, high-speed maglev train and suspended tunnel (submerged floating tunnel, SFT) were unveiled in mid-June at the 2023 World Transport Convention in China's Hubei province .

    The high-speed maglev train is a new green transportation system with high speed, safety, and intelligence. As a "small plane" that flies close to the ground, it will fill the gap between high-speed railway at 350 kilometers per hour and civil aviation at nearly 1,000 kilometers per hour.

    According to the calculation of actual travel time, the high-speed maglev train is the fastest transportation mode within a travel range of 1,500 kilometers, which is suitable for medium and long distance travel and urban agglomeration commuting.

    In addition to maglev train, suspended tunnel is a technology that has attracted a lot of positive attention, along with a fair share of concerns.

    There are many deep sea fjords with wide waters in the world, and it is difficult to connect them by using long-span bridges and deep sea tunnels, so the idea of SFT is an option for vehicle traffic.

    Different from general undersea tunnels, SFTs are tubular tunnels suspended in water by their own gravity, buoyancy and anchorage forces. Its advantage is that it is not limited by span and water depth, and can be built across long distance and steep place in the ocean.

    It is predicted that SFTs will be the leading direction of the future construction of submarine tunnels.
