Three Gorges Produces Over 1.6 Tn kWh of Clean Electricity
The Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydroelectric plant in terms of installed capacity, generated over 1.6 trillion kWh of electricity by July 10. This is the equivalent of the amount of energy that would be produced by over 480 million tons of coal, cutting more than 1.32 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
New Satellite to Test Satellite Internet Technologies
A new test satellite was sent into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on July 9. The launching was to conduct test missions for satellite internet technologies. The measuring system adopted an integrated sky and ground based measuring and controlling mode for the first time.
Chinese Researchers Measure Snow on Mt Qomolangma
A Chinese expedition team has measured the thickness of snow on the summit of Mount Qomolangma, the highest mountain in the world. Using radar measurements, the snow was found to be 9.5±1.2 meters thick, more than in the past. The research results were published in the journal The Cryosphere.
Longest CO_2 Transmission Pipeline in Operation
With a length of 109km, China's longest CO_2 transmission pipeline began operation on July 11. The pipeline can transmit 1.7 million tons of CO_2 generated and captured by Qilu Petrochemical to Shengli Oilfield in Shandong province for storage each year.
