"I want to help the community with the COVID-19 testing work because they have been so welcoming to me, and it felt like a good way to show my gratitude by volunteering for this task," said Adrian Young, a foreign teacher from the UK, now working at the Shijiazhuang Foreign Language Education Group (SFLEG).
Young recently became a volunteer, along with local residents, to fight against the pandemic in a community at Yuhua district, Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei province, amid the COVID-19 surge. He cherished this opportunity and regarded it as a way to connect more with people from his community. "I am very happy to be able to assist in any way possible with pandemic prevention work," he said, hoping that, "This can further help develop Shijiazhuang's internationalization and help show the gratitude of the foreign community in Shijiazhuang towards our hosts, as well as building more mutual trust and friendships."
Young has been working as an English teacher at SFLEG since September 2021. The combination of his engaging personality and unconventional approach to the classroom has made him popular with his students.
According to his students, Young's teaching methods not only fire up their enthusiasm for intercultural communication, but also stimulate their interest and curiosity about English learning.
Young's professional life is not the only aspect of his life that involves China.
He has visited several important tourist attractions across the country. However, Shijiazhuang remains his favorite city. He finds the city constantly developing and highly inclusive, along with the convenience of shared bicycles, electric vehicles and diverse options for shopping and living.
