Those are the words of Wang Zhigang, the Chinese minister of science and technology, who was speaking at the Foreign Scientists Symposium on August 28.
During the event, Wang pointed out that the rapid development of science and technology has a profound impact on the future and destiny of a country and has helped change the way people understand and transform the world. To seek methods and answers from sci-tech innovation is the only choice to address global challenges and promote world prosperity and development, he said.
China has attached great importance to scientific and technological innovation, taking innovation as the primary driving force of development, Wang stressed. He further noted that China will implement a more inclusive and mutually beneficial strategy for international sci-tech cooperation and proactively integrate itself into the global innovation network, fully implement the Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, and ensure that sci -tech achievements benefit more countries and people.
At the symposium, 15 scientists from the U.S., the UK, France and other countries shared their insights on basic research, enterprise innovation, sci-tech expertise, and openness and cooperation. They applauded China's achievements in sci-tech innovation, China's open stance in promoting opening-up and cooperation, as well as the innovation opportunities China has provided to global experts.
Scientists who attended the event reached the consensus that science knows no borders, and science and technology are essential to cope with global challenges. In order to contribute to human progress and development, they also emphasized that it is vital for governments around the world to expand collaboration and exchanges in the field of sci-tech innovation.
