In the first half of this year, China's air quality has generally improved, with 84.6 percent of the days in 339 cities at prefecture level or above having good air quality, up 0.3 percentage points year-on-year, according to the data released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
The concentration of air pollutant continues to decrease across the country.
●The average concentration of PM2.5 was 32 micrograms per cubic meter, down 5.9 percent year-on-year;
●The average PM10 concentration was 55 micrograms per cubic meter, down 8.3 percent year-on-year;
●The average concentration of SO2 was 9 micrograms per cubic meter, down by 10.0 percent year-on-year;
●The average concentration of NO2 was 21 micrograms per cubic meter, down 12.5 percent year-on-year;
●The average CO concentration was 1.1 milligram per cubic meter, down 8.3 percent year-on-year.
By contrast, the average O2 concentration saw a 4.3 percent increase year on year to 144 micrograms per cubic meter.
Where air quality has improved sharply in recent years are cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and its surrounding areas. Compared with 2017, the regional average concentration of PM2.5 decreased by 38.2 percent, SO2 and CO down 67.6 percent and 59.4 percent respectively, which indicates remarkable progress due to the region's effort in improving coal consumption efficiency, said Tang Guigang from China National Environmental Monitoring Center.
