The Boao Forum for Asia Innovation Report 2021, launched on July 13 by Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), suggested that 5G+AI will start a major industrial cycle, accelerating the emergence of disruptive technologies, new economic forms and new production and organization forms.
The report noted that 5G is the highland for the next information technology revolution, and technologies developed on 5G, such as Internet of Things, could be new impetus for the change of human productivity.
China and the United States have a leading edge in AI. Intelligent vision, intelligent voice and autonomous driving will develop continuously with the largest market size and potential, said the report, emphasizing that data becomes a key production factor and a strategic resource.
Li Baodong, secretary-general of BFA, said that sci-tech innovation has become a key variable that influences global development. He noted that Asia is now one of the most active regions for global innovation activities and China has played an important role in promoting the growth of global innovation.
China is not only a crucial participant of international frontier innovation, but also an important contributor to jointly solving global issues, suggested the report, adding that the role China plays in global innovation has changed as the country has strengthened the top-level design of sci-tech innovation systems and comprehensively promoted the system and institution reform for innovation development for the past decade, resulting in many giant strides of the national sci-tech strength both in quality and systematic capability.
Apart from AI, the report also shed light on green environmental protection and low-carbon technology, life-health and biomedicine, new materials, and advanced manufacturing.
