As a leading manufacturing country, China needs more skilled manufacturing workers and is making every effort to upskill them.
From 2022-2025, a batch of national training bases focusing on urgently needed manufacturing skills will be built, according to a new policy document released by three government bodies including the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
High-tech manufacturing, digital manufacturing, and other highly sought after skills are on the top list.
Meanwhile, the evaluation system and incentive mechanisms will be optimized to encourage more manufacturing talent, particularly young talent, to stand out.
The document sets out a series of tasks and measures, such as promoting advanced study and training, setting out skill training lists and rolling out new-type apprenticeship systems.
It calls for carrying out skill training in the light of local conditions and exploring certification information sharing systems.
Targeting vocational skills in key fields such as artificial intelligence, industrial robots, and new energy vehicles, skill competitions at various levels will be held, and an array of competition brands will be developed.
Enterprises are expected to play a greater role in the training of skilled personnel.
To promote the integration between R&D and manufacturing practices, a teamwork model of engineers plus highly-skilled leading talent will be explored in key projects, said the document.
According to an action plan released last year, China proposes to cultivate more than 40 million skilled personnel over the 2021-2025 period.
