Stricter Standards in Place for Nucleic Acid Testing
By Staff Reporters

A recent policy emphasized that China has implemented more robust standards for the oversight of the COVID-19 nucleic acid testing procedure.

The document, issued by the State Council Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism Against COVID-19, requires that local governments further implement relevant regulations on the qualification of testing agencies and intensify the assessment of agencies and personnel.

According to the document, institutions conducting mass COVID-19 testing must comply with relevant regulations and must not have been subject to administrative penalties in the last two years.

The document stipulates that all personnel must be trained and qualified by health authorities before participating in sampling operations. They should be familiar with the process of collection to guarantee that the operation is standard.

In order to consistently improve testing quality, the document also notes that routine supervision must be increased. In addition, related reports about testing quality should be made available to the public.

The sample collection, preservation, and transportation management should also be standardized. Specific requirements for the monitoring of large-scale nucleic acid testing, testing resources, and the exit mechanism for testing institutions are outlined in this document.
