Wuhan and Vienna pushed the boundaries of the cyber world a little further on June 17-18 when the two cities were venues for the first Austrian Technology Days Hubei & China-Austria Scientific and Technological Innovation Pitchinar Event streamed live. Research institutions and technology enterprises in Beijing, Shanxi and Zhejiang also participated. Pitchinars, as the name implies, are competitive project pitching conducted via webinars.

    The event saw 30 technology-based enterprises, research institutions and universities from China and Austria conducting project roadshows in four fields: environmental technology, intelligent manufacturing and artificial intelligence, ICT for smart cities and smart circular economy. A total of 60 enterprises from both sides participated in 110 B2B matchmaking sessions.

    The China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC), together with the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology, successfully organized the event under the guidance of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.

    In May 2021, Wang Zhigang, the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, held a video meeting with its Austrian counterpart under the framework of the China-Austria friendly strategic partnership, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Austria. 

    During this meeting, CSTEC and FFG signed an MOU on cooperation, with the aim of promoting cooperation between Chinese and Austrian industries, academia and research institutions in terms of information communication, technology matchmaking, talent exchange and commercialization of R&D results.
